The opening of the European Parliament-Arctic Friendship Group took place in the European Parliament (Brussels) on 13 November 2019. The Chair of the Friendship Group is MEP Urmas Paet. The Vice-Chairs are MEP Miapetra Kumpula-Natri and MEP Pernille Weiss.
The EU and the Arctic have a longstanding engagement based on history, geography, economy and research. The aim of the Friendship Group is to facilitate improved cooperation, network building and knowledge sharing concerning the issues faced in the Arctic as well as to encourage a discussion on positive initiatives.
